VIRIDIS Design Group was retained by The Charter Township of Caledonia to develop a park master plan for a 50 acre site in close proximity to the Thornapple River and the Village of Alaska. VIRIDIS worked closely with the park steering committee, adjacent land owners, and general public to develop the design of the park with a special emphasis on sustainable park reclamation. A phased park master plan as well as detailed enlargement plans, character sketches, elevations, phasing plans, cost estimates, and submission of a MNRTF grant application were completed as part of the master planning process.
Proposed park amenities include: swimming beach, beach house, fishing piers, trail head, parking, picnic shelters, sledding hill with warming house, bike paths, nature trails, constructed wetlands, bio-swales, rain gardens, and over 100 acres of restored upland prairie and native landscaping.
